International private equity firm Cinven today announces that it has appointed Dr. Michael Weber as Partner with effect from 1st October 2024.

Dr. Michael Weber will be joining from European mid-market firm, Riverside, where he was a Senior Partner and member of the Investment Committee for the Riverside Europe Fund. In this role, Michael was responsible for investment activities in the DACH region; led the Software and Technology sector team in Europe; and originated and led transactions.

Prior to joining Riverside, Michael worked at Auctus Capital Partners, a leading German mid-market private equity fund focused on buy-and-build investments. Michael began his career at The Boston Consulting Group as a strategy consultant.

At Cinven, Michael will pursue investments in the European mid-market, drawing on his significant experience in the DACH region in sectors including technology, tech-enabled services and financial services. Michael also brings with him a wealth of experience working on founder-led transactions, an area where Cinven is focused, including its recent investments in think-cell, Fressnapf and Vitamin Well.

Cinven believes the European mid-market is an attractive market with significant potential, particularly in the areas aligned with the firm’s core geographic and sector strengths, including across technology and tech enabled services, financial services and business services, where Cinven has deep expertise and networks to draw on.

Cinven is an active investor in the DACH region, having recently agreed a new strategic investment in Fressnapf Group, a leading European pet supplies business and co-led the acquisitions of TK Elevator from ThyssenKrupp AG in February 2020 and Arxada (previously Lonza Specialty Ingredients) from Lonza Group AG in February 2021. Cinven’s German-headquartered portfolio companies include Master Builders Solutions, a leading global manufacturer of concrete admixtures, think-cell, a leading productivity software for creating data-driven presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, STADA, a manufacturer of prescription generics and over-the-counter products, Viridium, a consolidation platform for the German life insurance market, as well as SYNLAB, the largest European clinical laboratory and medical diagnostic services company.

Commenting on Michael’s appointment, Bruno Schick, Co-Managing Partner and Head of the DACH team at Cinven said:

“We are delighted to welcome Michael to the team. His extensive experience and considerable expertise within software and technology and business services sectors will be a tremendous asset as Cinven continues to grow and strengthen its investments in these areas. We see strong potential in the mid-market, especially in these Cinven key sectors. Michael’s appointment will ensure Cinven is well placed to continue to tap into this attractive part of the market.”

Dr Michael Weber, Partner at Cinven, added:

“I am excited to join Cinven to help leverage the great platform Cinven offers and successfully operates via its unique matrix in attractive sectors and regions, whilst utilising my experience in mid-market transactions, in the software and technology sector and on founder-led transactions. Having been impressed with the team and heritage, I look forward to working with the team to identify new investment opportunities and to drive value across the portfolio.”
